Tokyo Olympic volleyball competitions- Two days to go!

The long waited Tokyo Olympic volleyball competitions finally will start on 24 July!!

The formula of the competition will be: Two pools of six teams each, each team will play against the other 5 teams in the same pool once under the single round robin system. Total 30 matches per gender in theround robin phase.

In the quarterfinals (QF), top 4 teams in each pool will play according to their ranking in theround robin phase. Rank No.1 team in pool A (A1) will play against rank no. 4 team in pool B (B4). Draw A2/A3 vs draw B2/B4 and A4 will play against B1. Winners ofquarterfinals will advance to semifinals.

In the semifinals, winner of QF1 will player against winner of QF2 and winner of QF3 will play against QF4. Winner of the semifinals will play the Gold medal match while the losers will play the Bronze medal match.

Women’s round robin phase pool A included: Japan (Host), Serbia, Brazil, Korea, Dominican Republic and Kenya. Pool B included: China, USA, ROC (Russia Olympic Committee), Italy, Argentina, Turkey.

Men’sround robin phase pool A included: Japan (Host), Poland, Italy, Canada, Iran and Venezia. Pool B included: Brazil, USA, ROC, Argentina, France and Tunisia.

The women’s round robin phase will start on 24 July. Quarterfinals on 4 August and Gold medal match on 8 August.The men’s round robin phase will start on 24 July. Quarterfinals on 5 August and Gold medal match on 7 August.
