The Anti-Doping Court of Sports Justice applied a four-year suspension to Brazilian player Tandara Caixeta on Monday night, 23rd of May, 2022.
The Olympic champion received the maximum penalty for using the substance Ostarine, as a result of an exam that was announced while the athlete was with the women’s volleyball team at the Tokyo Olympics.
The penalty applies from the exam result and Tandara is free to return to play from July 2025, while she will be 37 years old. There is still an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Switzerland.
“I’m proud of my 18-year career without any blemishes. My life is volleyball and anyone who knows me knows I wouldn’t do anything that could destroy everything we’ve built in all this time. Although we have more than enough evidence that show that I was contaminated, had an unfair conviction, disproportionate and preceded by a strange leak of a process that should have been confidential,” said Tandara.
The athlete is a pre-candidate for federal deputy and will run for the first time in the elections, in October. If she cannot reverse or reduce the penalty, the chances of being on court again decrease.
