According to a Brazilian media outlet, Voleitaubate, Rio Olympic champion outside hitter Ricardo Lucarelli was injured in the match held last week between EMS Taubaté Funvic and Volleyball Renata Campinas.
On the diagnosis team doctor Dr. Alexandre de Paiva Luciano said,
“After the examination for Ricardo Lucarelli, a complete right calcaneal tendon injury was found. And in case of surgical treatment, Lucarelli can no longer play in the first phase of the Super League, and his return will depend on the rehabilitation progress, but without guarantee of return for this edition of the competition.”
Not only to his club, Ricardo’s unfortunate injury will also have a deep impact to the national team since year 2018 will hold the World Championship tournament. We wish Ricardo a speedy recovery.
