According to the official website of the All-Russian Volleyball Federation (ВФВ/ VFV), there is a change in the head coach of the Russian women’s volleyball team that the position of Konstantin Ushakov and Vladimir Kuzyutkin will now be swapped. In other words, Ushakov is now the new head coach.
The announcement also notes that the former head of the national team Kuzyutkin will work as a senior coach (aka second coach).
“There is nothing surprising about this news as this is all planned. This development was expected at the time of the reappointment of Vladimir Ivanovich Kuzyutkin to the post of head coach of the team before the start of the season-2017, and with his consent,” – said the president of the VFV Stanislav Shevchenko.
“We must look forward, with an eye toward the Tokyo Olympics 2020, and ensure the continuity of generations in the coaching staff,” he added.
Kuzyutkin was approved by the presidium of the VFV as head coach of the Russian national team in February, Ushakov was appointed to the position of a senior coach. In September, the national team took the fourth place at the World Champions Cup in Japan. On Wednesday, the Russians went to the European Championships, which will be held in Azerbaijan and Georgia from September 22 to October 1.
