The FIVB announced that Russia will host the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship. President Dr Ary S. Graça Fᵒ made the announcement at the federation’s 36th World Congress on 15 November in Cancun Mexico.
Volleyball has grown significantly in Russia in recent years, thanks partly to the great success of the Russian men’s national team. At the London 2012 Olympic Games, Russia won volleyball gold. In 2018, Russia won the inaugural Volleyball Nations League (VNL), before qualifying for the final week of the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship in Italy and Bulgaria.
Following the announcement, FIVB President Ary Graça said:
“We are very excited to be partnering with Russia for the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship. We have no doubt that Russia will deliver a world-class event in which the FIVB will present the latest technologies and advancements in fan entertainment, showcasing state-of-the-art volleyball competitions.
Russian Volleyball Federation President Stanislav Shevchenko said:
“This is a wonderful opportunity for the Russian Volleyball Federation and the Russian people to cheer on their team on home soil. We saw the excitement for volleyball after Russia won the VNL and we are already looking forward to hosting a great event that the entire volleyball family will enjoy!”
