Hightlights of the 2nd Tournament Day – World Grand Champions Cup 2017

2nd tournament day (6 September2017) concluded and only Olympic champion China remains unbeaten out of the six teams while Russia, USA clinched their first victory.

China vs Brazil

3-2 (25-20, 25-12, 20-25, 23-25, 19-17)

Led by superstar player Zhu Ting, who scored a total of 33 points, China became the final survivor after a five set thriller.

In the first two sets, it appeared that Brazil had no idea how to implement their game strategy under huge pressure from Zhu’s attack. After a strategic tweak, Brazil made a fierce comback in the following two sets with sound defense and counterattack. The south american also demonstrated an absolute advantage in blocking with 16-8 over the asian team.

Still with Zhu Ting’s super spike and more stable team performance, China eventually won their final golden set.

USA vs Korea

3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-16)

With an overall satisfactory performance delivered by three promising stars, Larson, Adams and Gibbemeyer, USA clinched a straight set victory over Korea.

Adams, Gibbemeyer, Larson each scored 12 points, while Drews and Hill added 11 apiece to give USA its first victory in the 2017 edition. Lee Jaeyong was the only double-digit scorer for Korea with 15 points.
Russia vs Japan

3-1 (22-25, 25-18, 25-22, 28-26)

Despite more unforced errors which resulting in loss in the first set, Russia unlocked their full power riding on their height advantage against home team Japan.

In addition to the major stars Kosheleva and Goncharova who together scored 42 points out of 100,  Russian troop soared  a total of 22 blocking points where the Japanese got only 5 in the entire match. What caught our attention is that setter  Filishtinskaya scored 7 points from blocking alone which is unbeliveably exceptional.
