Conclusion of Preliminary Round of FIVB World Grand Prix 2017 (Group1)

As the 3-week preliminary round has come to an end, 6 finalists have been determined with a surprise that the world no.1 China did not make it into the final six. Due to its being the host country for the WGP Finals, Japan, ranked 6th has to unfortunately give way to China.

Except Serbia, USA and Italy, which have secured their places in the finals at an earlier time, the remaining 2 qualifying tickets were competed among Japan, Brazil and Netherlands. Despite an early triumph over Russia, Japan’s chance was stun by subsequent victories of Brazil and Netherlands who defeated USA and group 1 new comer, Belgium. 

Regardless of the ranking, we can still expect a very exciting and vigourous encounters among the world’s strongest teams in the final rounds, including the Olympic champions China, Olympic silver medallists Serbia, reigning world champions and Rio 2016 bronze medallists USA, defending World Grand Prix champions Brazil, plus the European powerhouses Netherlands and Italy.
